The Thesen Islands Living and Leisure Club
History
In the early developing stages of Thesen Islands a group of ladies got together to start the Thesen Islands Gardening club, with the aim of getting acquainted as new residents and helping each other creating their new gardens on the island. In 2005 and 2007 the Club organized the very successful "Thesen Open Gardens" event where interesting and outstanding gardens were opened briefly to the public for a small fee - all the proceeds were donated to local charities.
The club has since evolved into the Thesen Islands Living and Leisure Club with its focus on the celebration of Island friendships and the appreciation of Knysna and its surrounds.
Activities
The Club can look back on the year 2012 with several interesting and well-attended outings and events, ending with a lovely Christmas Tea held at the clubhouse at the end of November.
The first meeting for 2013 is planned for February but we are also looking to put together an overnight visit to South Africa's "capital of port wine" Calitzdorp toward end January – beginning February. An e-mail with more details will be sent out to all members shortly.
Regular get-togethers are held and the agenda varies from speakers and local entertainment to expeditions used to uncover hidden treasures on Thesen's doorstep. The Club invites all Thesen Islands residents to join and promises a stimulating exchange with interesting people and enchanting outings.
Interested to join the Club? You are most welcome to contact Mary-Anne (chairlady) or Corlia (secretary) by telephone or e-mail.
